3 Days Desert Tour Fes to Marrakech Itinerary
Day 1: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Middle Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga.
Depart from Fes early in the morning for a journey to Ifrane, a very beautiful alpine-style town largely settled by foreigners with its cool, refreshing climate, vis-a-vis European-style building architecture. Enjoy taking walks around this cute little town; head off after that toward Azrou to interact with the liveliest Barbary monkeys amidst the greenery of a cedar forest, a fantastic photometric occasion!
Continue deeper into the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Midelt, known for its apple production. Have a delicious local lunch. Drive through the breathtaking Tizi n’Taghamt pass and follow the Ziz Valley, with its landscape changing to a lush oasis lined with date palms.
In the late afternoon, arrive at Merzouga, where your camel caravan awaits. This will be an opportunity to explore the magic dunes of Erg Chebbi, observe a breathtaking sunset over the high dune, and continue to your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, and spend the night celebrating around the campfire, surrounded by stars above the Sahara sky.
Overnight: Luxury Desert Camp, Merzouga
Day 2: Merzouga ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Dades Valley.
Watch the fantastic moment of sunrise over the dunes, a view that stays in one’s memory forever. After breakfast at the camp, say goodbye to the Sahara and head toward Rissani, where you will be able to walk around and explore the busy market to learn about what was once an important trading market.
Drive to Todra Gorge, an impressive chasm in the Atlas Mountains with incredible canyons. Take a gentle walk on the riverside and enjoy the savage beauty of this natural wonder. Then, drive to Dades Valley via Tinghir with its palm grove and smaller Berber villages.
Upon arrival in Boumalne Dades, see the curiously shaped rock formations known as “Monkey Fingers.” Hotel check-in for an evening of relaxation and a night stay in Dades Valley.
Day 3: Dades Valley ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Marrakech.
Breakfast would be followed by crossing the Rose Valley over to Ouarzazate, passing by traditional Berber villages. Visit the Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate, where many blockbuster movies were filmed.
Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has appeared in films including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. The narrow alleys of this kasbah allow for light walking uphill with plenty of stunning views.
Lunch is just outside Ait Ben Haddou before continuing through the High Atlas, ascending the wonderful Tizi n’Tichka pass. The late afternoon will find you in Marrakech, the road winding through classic villages along the mountainside with stunning views.
